Abstract

Fetal death is not a rare occurrence despite all modern technological knowledge. The most frequent causes of fetal death continue to be possibly controlled or treated in developing countries. The authors review in this article the concept of fetal death and its classification, incidence and high rates reached in developing countries. They describe the epidemiology of antepartum fetal death with a more modern approach of considering the associated factors. Finally, they reinforce the need of investigating the real cause of fetal death and propose special attention during prenatal care in searching and eliminating or attenuating the associated factors identified. They also emphasize the need for follow-up and treatment of the pathological conditions that may cause it.
