Anatomic-radiologic confrontation in a case of peritoneal carcinomatosis caused by gallbladder adenocarcinoma
case report with autopsy
Keywords:
abdominal computed tomography, gallbladder adenocarcinoma, peritoneal carcinomatosisAbstract
This work relates a case report demonstrating a male patient Who underwent a cholecystectomy three years ago, presented abdominal pain and ascites, intercalated with periods of diarrhea, and died with an important degree of cachexia. Radiologic study with Computed Tomography showed oment-cake image suggesting neoplasm invasiveness in peritoneum; autopsy using abdominal topographic incisions dentonstrated hontogeneous invasion of peritoneun and microscopic study showed gallbladder adenocarcinoma, fact confirmed by anatomic pathologic study. It was concluded that Computed Tomography, when well indicated and interpreted, is very important to patient's diagnosis and prognosis, and autopsy still remains the best method to check complementary study.
