Therapeutic monitoring of anticonvulsant drugs
Keywords:

The therapeutic monitoring of drugs in plasma has been an important instrument to assure a therapy with the maximum efficacy and the minimum toxic effects, in an individual manner, since therapeutic and toxic effects are better related to plasmatic concentration than to the administered dose. Analytical techniques frequently used for the determination of anticonvulsant drugs are
gas-liquid chromatography (GLC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and immunologic techniques (polarisation fluoroimmuno assay - PFIA). Primidone, phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine and 10,11 carbamazepine-epoxide were determined in freeze-dried samples of plasma and GLC, HPLC and PFIA techniques were used The results were compared according to data reported the Health Control External Quality Assessment Scheme in Cardiff.
