Desease of body and desease of soul: one apresentation

Abstract

This work prcsents the study with the sarne titlc defended as a doctoral thcsis at thc Instituto de Psicologia da Universidade de São Paulo, in Dcccmbcr, 1995. lt discusscs thc possibility of a psychoanalitic investigation ofthe complex phenomena that the body presents and wich go beyond the objectification that Medicine had assigned it. We try to characterize two ways in the access and description of thesc phenomena: thc Psychosomatic Medicine and the Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics.The first one is supported on the postulation, methods and finalities ofMedicine, while the second wants to aproximate the theory, method and practicc of the Psychoanalysis to the corporal manifestation in the human bcing. Going throug the history of thc healing practiccs, sincc the ancestral Medicine, wc try to demonstrate that Psychosomatics was in the origin of these practices, but it was abandoned by scientific Medicine, and did not find legitimation in the Psychoanalysis cither, bccoming a "tcrritory of nobody", a rcgion of ambiguitics and unccrtainty, and that demands, today, an cffort of conception and characterization by severa! profcssionals, from the different areas that participate in its frontiers. We present threc examples of the psychoanalytical practice with psychosomatic patients, using contributions of Georg Groddeck, who is briefly presented, and we conclude with thc proposal of thc adoption of the Moebius Band, as a conceptual instrument for a non-dualistic description ofthe body-mind interaction.
