Abstract

The goal of this study is to identify the relationships bctwccn the way parents deal with their aggrcssive feelings and their children's behavior, regarding aggression. Eighty children ofboth sexes, with ages ranging from three to five years, and their parents wcrc thc subjects ofthe study. Some screening was conducted, controlling for variables such as: living with both parents, number of siblings, and age. After the children were observed in the pre-school, for 90 minutes.Toe parents were administered Spielberger's STAXI which shows how angcr is cxpressed. The results revealed a positive significant correlation between mothcr's "anger-out" scores and thc total aggressive behavior of their daughters. Thc ANOVAS performed to see if males would show more physical than verbal aggression, as compared to females, yielded significant leveis. It was found that both kinds of aggressive behavior, physical and verbal, increased with age, in this sample. The study contains a brief analysis of aggressive behaviors in children, as well as a content analysis of vcrbalizations of aggression.
