USOS E ABUSOS DA AVALIAÇÃO PSICOLÓGICA NAS ESCOLAS
Abstract
This study questions the way psychological assessment has been used in the Brazilian schools. The first question raised is related to the professional who does psychological evaluation in the schools, that is, the school psychologist. As psychologists receive their degree at the undergraduate leveI, it is analyzed the curriculum content of the undergraduate schools, and concluded it is geared to clinic psychology. Psychologists, who end up working in the schools, are not prepared to understand the individual in his educational environment. Psychological assessment is used under a clinical focus and considered to be the only way to explain the learning problems. Considerations are made on how to combine quantitative with qualitative data, in order to have a most comprehensive view of learning and do a better contribution for reducing learning difficulties.
