Age and socio-educational effects on children’s emotional understanding

study examined the influence of socioeconomic contexts and age on children´s emotional understanding. One hundred and seventeen children ranging in age from 3 to 8 years participated in the study. They were divided by type of school: public and private, and age: 3 years, ages 4-5 years, and ages 6-8 years. The Test of Emotion Comprehension was used for data collection. Results showed the influence of age and socioeconomic contexts on children´s emotion understanding. Children from private schools obtained higher scores in Test of Emotion Comprehension than children from public schools. In addition there was higher frequency of correct answer in the test as children’s age increased
