Níveis de colesterol em escolares da primeira série de uma escola pública de Campinas, São Paulo, Brasil

O nível de colesterol na infância é um precursor do nível de colesterol na vida adulta e o seu conhecimento pode auxiliar na prevenção da doença coronariana. Estudo transversal foi realizado junto a um grupo de escolares com a finalidade de determinar os valores de colesterol, suas frações, razões entre elas e triglicerídeos. O sangue foi colhido após jejum mínimo de 12 horas e analisado conforme padronização internacional. Os dados obtidos mostram que os valores médios encontrados para o colesterol ( 143mg/dl) , HDL-colesterol (35mg/dl) e triglicerídeos (61 mg/dl) estão abaixo dos citados na literatura. A média obtida para o LDL-colesterol foi 96mg/dl e para o 1/LDL-colesterol 12mg/dl. As meninas apresentaram maior teor de colesterol e LDL-colesterol que os meninos na faixa etária entre 8 e 9 anos de idade. Os resultados obtidos sugerem uma prevalência de 13,5% de hipercolesterolemia entre os escolares estudados. Faz-se necessário estudos mais amplos junto à população infantil brasileira.
