Abstract

The way space interferes with perception is complex, since its association to the individual. But if the experience is multiple, the system that structures this subjectivity in the human mind, on the oposity, has better defined boundaries. The study aims to explore the interaction between architecture and brain functioning through the application of neuroscience to buildings, known as neuroarchitecture. It investigates how the built environment influences human perception and behavior, as well as the potential therapeutic aspects of space in promoting physical and mental well-being. To achieve this, it employs a theoretical-exploratory approach, combining elements
of theoretical and exploratory research to enhance the understanding of the subject. The critical analysis and synthesis of existing information in the available scientific literature are presented in two main sections: architecture and mind, addressing how emotions, movement and light interfere with the perception of places; and the therapeutic potential of space, dealing with how architectural attributes affect human health and quality of life. Conclusive analyzes point to the formalization of neuroarchitecture as an effective tool in the investigation of the environment-mind relationship, made possible by technological advances
in brain mapping; and for the recognition of healing environments, far beyond just minimizing the negative effects on the individual, but also in proven restorative health benefits.
