DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL E A SOCIEDADE DA INFORMAÇÃO: UMA PARCERIA NATURAL?

The study facuses, ill the form of a literature review, the hypothesis that the advellt of
the so-called "post-illdustrial, informatioll society" has moved to a period of
socio-ecollomic activity alld development that represents a radical departure from
the "old ways". Within this framework, it stresses the wide-held 1l0tio1l that the
dYllamics ofthis llew mode of society favours a type of economic alld social developmellt
that is ecologically more sustainable, principally because the new developmellt
paradigm celltres 011illformation and information-related activities. The question of
the ways that this lIew development paradigm may 01'may not affect the socalled late
developillg countries is also addressed.
