El artículo aborda la vida y obra de Mortimer Taube, filósofo y bibliotecario estadounidense que contribuyó a la organización y representación de la información y el conocimiento ya la recuperación de información. Taube fue el creador del Sistema Uniterm, pionero en la indexación poscoordinada. Fue el fundador de Documentation Incorporated, empresa que brindaba servicios de información a instituciones de renombre como la Administración Nacional de Aeronáutica y del Espacio (NASA) y la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos (USAF). Taube falleció en 1965, pero dejó atrás su aporte en el área de indexación y recuperación de información, así como su posición crítica sobre la biblioteconomía y las ciencias de la información, sustentada en la epistemología crítica que subyace a su práctica profesional. En general, la influencia filosófica de la formación de Taube se reflejó en su producción bibliográfica, difundida entre la formulación de conceptos, fundamentos teóricos y perspectivas divulgadas por el autor.
