The format of references and incidentallearning during: a study with universityfaculty members

The aim of the research was to study the format used to enclose
references intext inreading behaviorofteachers at University.Subjects were
teachers from a privated universityrandomically designedto composetwo groups. GROUP I(N=14) read a textwith the references presented as name
of author/date; GROUP II(N=17) read same text but the references indicated
by a number. The results showed that: the use of the format name of authorl date resulted in more learning and substancial reading than the use number as a way to present references in the scientific discourse.
